Slipmats

Sean’s artist name is Owlbear

Last summer (before we were going out)Sean asked me if I would draw something on his slipmats, and at first I was like “yeah… sure… (what the hell is a slipmat?!)” But a few months later I actually got around to drawing him something, because it was basically an excuse to hang out.

I rarely do any finished artwork with traditional media, but it was cool drawing with just pen. I like all the varied line widths!

For those who do not know a slip mat is a pad placed between your turntable (record player) and the record, to protect it from scratches, wear and tear, and provide a slick surface for cueing, scratching, and any other reason you would touch the record. These particular slip mats are called Frosted Plates, and were specifically made to be drawn on. I think they had a contest but we missed it by about a year. They feature my favorite mythological characters. The Owlbear is a monster from Dungeons and Dragons, that is freaking hilarious. Imagine half Owl, half Bear, all power. The other is the angry flying bear which has its own page in the Art section.
